What is Ask AI in GoHighLevel?
Ask AI is GoHighLevel's built-in AI assistant that works across the platform. It handles scheduled tasks, generates blog posts, manages course content, reads uploaded files, remembers past conversations, and responds to voice commands. Available at the agency level for free. Sub-account access is available through the AI Employee Unlimited plan ($97/month) or on a pay-per-use basis.

Ask AI is not a chatbot for end users or website visitors. It is an internal AI assistant for GoHighLevel account holders, designed to speed up work inside the platform itself.
Think of it as having a knowledgeable assistant available in the GoHighLevel dashboard at all times. Need a blog post drafted? Ask AI writes it. Need to schedule a recurring data pull? Ask AI handles it. Need course content reviewed or student questions answered? Ask AI can reference your uploaded materials and respond.
The distinction matters because GoHighLevel has multiple AI tools, and they serve different audiences. Conversation AI handles client-facing chat and SMS. Voice AI answers phone calls from leads and customers. Ask AI is for the person managing the account: the agency owner, the marketing manager, the solo operator who wants to get more done inside GoHighLevel without switching to a separate AI tool.
Core features
Scheduled tasks
Ask AI can automate recurring work inside GoHighLevel. Set up tasks that run on a schedule: daily reports, weekly data summaries, recurring content drafts, or periodic reminders. Instead of building a complex workflow to trigger these, describe what you need in natural language and set the frequency.
This is particularly useful for agencies managing multiple sub-accounts. Schedule a weekly performance summary for each client, a daily lead count check, or a monthly content audit. The AI executes the task and delivers the output without manual intervention.
Blog generation
Ask AI can generate complete, SEO-friendly blog drafts directly from a prompt. The workflow is straightforward: describe the topic, specify any keywords or structure preferences, and Ask AI produces a full draft with title suggestions, structured headings, and long-form paragraphs.
Multi-language support is included. Blog generation supports drafting in multiple languages, which is useful for agencies serving international markets. The drafts can reference URLs and images for context, and editing happens within the same chat interface before publishing.
For agencies producing content at scale for clients, this removes a significant bottleneck. A single prompt can produce a draft that previously required hiring a writer or spending an hour with a standalone AI tool.
Course management
Ask AI integrates with GoHighLevel's Courses and Memberships features. It can answer student questions based on course content, help draft lesson materials, and generate quizzes or supplementary resources.
If a student asks a question about a specific module, Ask AI can reference the course content and provide a relevant answer. This reduces the support burden for course creators who field repetitive questions about material that is already covered in the lessons.
File attachments
Upload documents, spreadsheets, and PDFs for Ask AI to reference during conversations. This turns Ask AI into a context-aware assistant that knows your specific business data.
Upload a pricing sheet, and Ask AI can answer questions about your rates. Upload a service agreement template, and it can help you customize it for a new client. Upload a competitor analysis, and it can summarize the key differences. The files remain available across the conversation, so you can ask follow-up questions without re-uploading.
Web context
Ask AI can pull live web data into conversations. Reference a URL and Ask AI will fetch the content and use it as context for its response. Useful for competitive research, content summarization, or pulling in information from external sources without copy-pasting.
Voice mode
Instead of typing prompts, talk to Ask AI directly. Voice mode accepts spoken input and delivers responses through voice output. This is useful for quick questions while multitasking, brainstorming sessions where typing slows the flow, or accessibility needs.
Voice mode works alongside text input. Switch between typing and speaking within the same conversation as needed.
Memory
Ask AI remembers preferences, edits, brand styles, and instructions across sessions. This means the assistant improves over time as it learns how you work.
Set a brand voice once, and Ask AI maintains it across future content drafts. Specify formatting preferences, and they carry forward. If you have custom instructions already written for ChatGPT or Claude, you can import them into Ask AI to bootstrap the memory with your existing preferences.
This is per-session context memory, not full CRM-level data access. Ask AI remembers what you have told it and how you have asked it to work, but it does not automatically ingest every contact record or pipeline deal in your account.
Access controls and pricing
As of late May 2026, Ask AI has two access paths and admin-level controls over who can use it.
Who can use Ask AI
- Agency-level users: Ask AI is available at no additional cost to agency owners on any GoHighLevel plan (Starter at $97/month, Unlimited at $297/month, or SaaS Pro at $497/month).
- Sub-account users: Ask AI is available either through the AI Employee Unlimited plan or on a pay-per-use basis. Admins control which sub-account users have access.
Admin access controls
Agency admins can now restrict who has access to Ask AI at the sub-account level. This means you can enable Ask AI for specific team members or roles while keeping it off for others. The controls sit inside the standard user roles and permissions settings. This is useful for agencies that want to limit usage to senior staff or specific departments to manage costs.
How billing works
Ask AI is billed in one of two ways:
- AI Employee Unlimited ($97/month per sub-account): Ask AI is included alongside Voice AI (inbound), Conversation AI, Reviews AI, and Content AI. If a sub-account is on AI Employee Unlimited, Ask AI usage is covered under that subscription.
- Pay-per-use: If a sub-account is not on AI Employee Unlimited, Ask AI usage is billed based on actual consumption. The cost per session varies depending on task complexity, the number of messages and AI turns in the conversation, whether actions are prepared or completed, whether visual rendering or image generation is involved, and whether external data or connected platform data is used. GoHighLevel uses multiple models behind the scenes and selects the appropriate one based on the request.
There is no fixed per-query price published for pay-per-use Ask AI. The variable pricing reflects the range of tasks Ask AI can perform, from a quick text answer (low cost) to a multi-step session involving web lookups, file analysis, and asset creation (higher cost).

How Ask AI compares to standalone AI tools
Ask AI is not trying to replace ChatGPT, Claude, or other dedicated AI assistants. Its advantage is platform integration, not raw AI capability.
Where Ask AI wins:
- It lives inside GoHighLevel. No tab switching, no copy-pasting between tools.
- It can take actions within the platform: draft blog posts that publish directly, reference course content, work with your uploaded business documents.
- Memory carries context about your GoHighLevel account and preferences.
- Scheduled tasks automate recurring work without building separate workflows.
Where standalone tools are stronger:
- General knowledge and reasoning. ChatGPT and Claude have broader training data and handle complex analytical or creative tasks with more nuance.
- Advanced coding, research, and multi-step reasoning. Dedicated AI assistants are purpose-built for these use cases.
- Plugin and integration ecosystems. Standalone tools connect to hundreds of third-party services; Ask AI works within the GoHighLevel ecosystem.
The practical approach for most users: use Ask AI for GoHighLevel-specific tasks (content drafts, scheduled reports, file analysis within the platform) and a standalone AI tool for general-purpose work (research, writing outside GHL, code, analysis). They complement each other rather than competing.
Limitations
Transparency matters more than marketing:
-
Internal only. Ask AI is for account holders working inside GoHighLevel. It cannot be deployed as a client-facing chatbot or customer support tool. For that, use Conversation AI.
-
Model-dependent quality. Ask AI's output quality depends on the underlying language model. For most business tasks (drafts, summaries, scheduling), the quality is solid. For highly specialized or technical content, results may need more editing.
-
Session-based memory. While Ask AI remembers preferences and instructions, this is conversational context, not a permanent knowledge graph. If you clear a conversation or start fresh, previous context may not carry over completely.
-
No API access. There is no public API for Ask AI. You cannot build custom integrations on top of it or programmatically trigger Ask AI from external systems. If you need programmatic AI access, look at Agent Studio for workflow-based AI actions.
-
Not a CRM query tool. Ask AI does not have direct read/write access to your CRM data (contacts, deals, pipelines). It works with files you upload and content you provide in the conversation. For CRM-level AI actions, Agent Studio with its Knowledge Base Search and Update Custom Value tools is the right approach.
Who should use it
Agency owners managing multiple sub-accounts. Ask AI speeds up recurring administrative tasks, content creation, and reporting across your client portfolio. Scheduled tasks alone can save hours per week for agencies with 10 or more sub-accounts.
Solo operators who want to move faster. If you are running your own GoHighLevel account and wearing every hat, Ask AI is a capable assistant for drafting content, analyzing documents, and handling tasks that would otherwise require switching to another tool.
Course creators and membership site owners. The course management integration makes Ask AI genuinely useful for reducing student support load and generating supplementary content.
Who should look elsewhere:
- If you need client-facing AI (chatbot, SMS responder, phone agent), use Conversation AI or Voice AI instead.
- If you need AI-powered workflow automation with CRM actions, use Agent Studio.
- If you need a general-purpose AI assistant for non-GoHighLevel work, a standalone tool like ChatGPT or Claude will serve you better.
